This interactive lecture explores the assessment and management of seizures and fever in pediatric patients. Seizures are one of the most common out-of-hospital pediatric medical emergencies. Fever is a common medical complaint, but is rarely an emergency; rather, it’s usually a symptom of an underlying illness. Although most children with fever have relatively benign, self-limiting conditions, it is important to identify those febrile children with potentially more serious conditions who require immediate prehospital management. Fevers may be associated with seizures in infants and preschool-aged children. No matter the presentation upon your arrival, any complaint of a seizure warrants further evaluation at a pediatric emergency center.

After completing this course, the practitioner will be able to:

  • Discuss why fever in pediatric patients is important to recognize.
  • Discuss common myths about fevers in pediatric patients.
  • Identify and treat seizures in pediatric patients.

Practitioners who successfully complete the Seizures and Fever in Pediatric Patients (ALS Edition) course are eligible for 0.5 hours of continuing education
