This interactive lecture explores care of cardiac-arrest patients after obtaining return of spontaneous circulation. Recognition of ventricular fibrillation is particularly important because prompt defibrillation improves the success of CPR and increases the likelihood of restoring a spontaneous perfusing rhythm.

After completing this course, the practitioner will be able to:

  • Identify the signs associated with return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC).
  • Follow the steps in the adult immediate post-cardiac arrest care algorithm including:
    1. Ensuring adequate oxygenation and ventilation.
    2. Ensuring adequate perfusion by treating hypotension.
    3. Establishing neuro-protective care using targeted temperature management (TTM).
    4. Making a transport decision based on the patient’s condition.

Practitioners who successfully complete the Post-Resuscitation Care (BLS Edition) course are eligible for 0.5 hours of continuing education
