This interactive lecture takes a detailed look at the effect of ventilation on venous return and cardiac output. It explores oxygenation of patients presenting with chest pain and possible stroke symptoms, and the potential for tissue damage with hyperventilation of patients who have heart failure, shock and stroke emergencies.
After completing this course, the practitioner will be able to:
- Understand how the body transports and metabolizes oxygen.
- Recognize adequate and inadequate breathing.
- Identify hypoxia and how free radicals inform decisions on oxygen therapy.
- Explain the American Heart Association’s (AHA) guidelines on oxygen therapy in patients with return of spontaneous circulation, acute coronary syndrome (ACS), and stroke.
Practitioners who successfully complete the Oxygenation (ALS Edition) course are eligible for 0.5 hours of continuing education
