Neurological Emergencies: Siezures (ALS)
This interactive lecture explores the assessment and management of patients with neurologic problems. These can be some of the most difficult cases an EMS practitioner will encounter, especially if the patient has an altered mental status (AMS)—as the many causes of AMS and the frequent inability of patients to communicate often present exceptional challenges. This module will assist practitioners with developing the skills to carry out an adequate methodical and detailed neurologic assessment and appropriately treat a seizure patient.
After completing this course, the practitioner will be able to:
- Describe the anatomy and physiology associated with neurologic emergencies.
- Define altered mental status (AMS).
- Outline potential causes of AMS.
- Summarize the different classifications and types of seizures.
- Discuss causes and associated complications of status epilepticus.
- Discuss the assessment and management of seizures
Practitioners who successfully complete the Neurologic Emergencies: Seizures (ALS Edition) course are eligible for 0.5 hours of continuing education
