Health care providers are likely to participate in the care of many patients in cardiac arrest during their careers. This module explores cardiac arrest management, including the current techniques for one- and two-rescuer CPR and various advanced airway management techniques and devices, such as endotracheal intubation and rescue devices. It also discusses the chain of survival and termination of CPR.

After completing this course, the practitioner will be able to:

  • Recite the chain of survival and understand its links.
  • Understand the current techniques for one- and two-rescuer CPR.
  • Demonstrate the current techniques for one- and two-rescuer CPR.
  • Determine criteria for terminating cardiac arrest in the out-of-hospital setting.
  • Understand common airway issues in cardiac arrest patients and perform advanced airway management skills.
  • Perform vascular access skills during a cardiac arrest and administer pharmacological therapies.
  • Demonstrate the current techniques of cardiac arrest management.

Practitioners who successfully complete the Adult Cardiac Arrest (ALS Edition) course are eligible for 2 hours of continuing education
